Darrel Wately worked at Holman Penitentiary in Alabama for over twenty-three years, running work crews in the swampland. With a sick child at home in need of a heart transplant and not enough money to pay for it, Darrel is desperate. The son of a Dixie mob boss works in one of Darrel’s crews. He tells Darrel about a large amount of cash and jewelry that were hidden in the bayou.

All of a sudden, Darrel Wately discovers that doing business with the underworld is more than he bargained for. His life, along with those of his family, is in dire danger.

Kane Silver takes on the job of body guard for the Wately family, and finds himself dragged into the murky under belly of New Orleans.
